Lighthouse and Fish Embroidery Quilt

Posted on

I’ve seen other quilts with lighthouses as a theme but I’ve never seen one this whimsical.  Look at how those lighthouses are bending and stretching!  The playful fish are the perfect touch in the other blocks.

This is Fay’s quilt and I believe it is a quilt top she used for a class she taught.  She is an embroidery queen and has all the know how to set up an embroidery block so it lies flat with no puckers.  That is no small feat!

I’ve played with some design possibilities on this top. I’ve put pebbles under the lighthouses to ground them.  Then I put water behind the fish and the lighthouses for the ocean. The sashing has some waves and the setting triangles are a spinning wave variation.

What do you think? Post your opinion in the comments and help Fay decide!

  1. I love the designs you have chosen. How about turning the swirly things in the setting triangles co they come from the bottom – up, sort of like underwater vegetation.

  2. Hmmm.. like kelp, eh? I’ll play around with that idea. Thanks for the suggestion!
