APQS Beginning Longarm Quilting Class
I will be teaching the APQS Beginning Longarm Quilting Class in Louisville, Ky.. This class is free for new APQS machine owners of both used and new machines. All others are $200 for the day. Lunch is included. Please know that while there will be APQS specific information in the class, most of the class will go over techniques that will work on any brand machine.
I have limited the class to only 4-5 students per session so contact me right away if you want to reserve your spot as I have only a handful of spots left. With the beginner class offered from APQS and Quilted Joy, our goal is to teach you the skills you'll need to accomplish a typical quilting project on your new longarm machine. This class is designed to be an introduction to machine quilting after you have made yourself familiar with your machine controls. Whether you intend to start a business or just want to get your quilts done faster, you'll learn valuable techniques to accomplish your projects creatively and efficiently. This class is mostly "demonstration" so we can squeeze in as much information as possible.
We will cover specific topics during each class, however, each class is unique and based on the needs of the students. We encourage questions and active participation -- you're here to learn!
Bring all your questions about operating the machine, business practices, thread, tension and anything else you can think of. This is a demonstration/lecture class. No hands on time will be available. Information we will cover includes:
- Starting a business
- Thread, tension, batting
- Deciding how to quilt a quilt
- Dealing with problem quilts
- Different methods for loading quilts
- Pantographs
- Borders
- Stitching a block
- Marking quilt designs
- Ruler work
Intelliquilter (IQ) Computerized Quilting System Test Drive
This free hands on class is designed for those interested in purchasing a computerized quilting system and are looking for a basic introduction to Intelliquilter. The class will reveal how to set up pantographs with the IQ and how to use the clip function to tailor your pantographs to your quilt's exact size.
We will also cover how to do borders and sashing by cutting out portions of a block quilting design which can then be used to make a border that directly relates to the quilting in the main body of the top.
The pattern designer function in IQ is another aspect of this class. Learn how IQ can record your own designs or paper designs and save them to be used over and over again.
A portion of the class will also cover how easy it is to switch into manual mode and back out again.
